The Sisters of Mary have two programs running in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2009, the Sisters opened a daycare center. In 2012, the Sisters opened an Elementary school offering education to children in grades 1 to 5. These programs give the children of Brazil a safe place to grow up and a solid foundation for a bright future.
The Elementary School operates in half-days to serve two groups of children, thus benefiting a greater number of poor families. The boys and girls are educated in a variety of subjects including math, Portuguese, history, geography and computing. Each session, the children receive a full meal and a snack.
The daycare facility allows young mothers in the community to work and earn money to feed their families while their children are well taken care of. While the children are at the daycare, they have the chance to play and learn and receive three meals a day plus milk when funds allow.
