MEET HEIDY

Girlstown Guatemala

“My father abandoned us, and my mom had to take care of us. I have three brothers. I spent a month bleeding from the nose, and I almost died because I was too weak. To buy my medicines, my mom asked my dad for help, but he said that he didn’t care, because for him I didn’t exist. I was hardly going to study 6th grade because I had no uniform, no school supplies because we spent everything on medicine. When I recovered, I went to work washing clothes so I could buy what I needed to study. After class I worked. I was very sad because I was not going to be able to continue studying. A neighbor told my mom about the Villa de las Ninas and I was very happy because I got to do my interview. I decided to come to follow my dream of continuing studying.

I want to finish my Baccalaureate here at the Villa de los Ninas. When I finish my study, I want to work to help my family. I’m going to help my family so they don’t have to work as much.”
