U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, Kristie A. Kenney, took time from her busy schedule to tour both Boystown and Girlstown in Cavite. She was delighted with the children and stayed for almost three hours!
She privately expressed her deep appreciation to the Sisters of Mary for what they are doing for the children.
Her visit was arranged by Marixi Prieto, who, with her husband, owns the largest newspaper in the Philippines. The Prieto’s originally owned the land where the first Girlstown was built in the Philippines.
Father Al, founder of Boystowns and Girlstowns, went to the Prieto’s with a request to buy the land, and the Prieto’s were sceptical that Father Al could really afford it.
However, Father Al managed to raise the necessary cash and complete the purchase. After that, the Prieto’s and Father Al were good friends and the Prieto’s have been long time supporters of the Sisters and their charity work with children.
